Why did Megyn Kelly leave Fox News? Reason explored as former host speaks at Trump's Pittsburgh rally

On November 4, 2024, American commentator Megyn Kelly took to X to announce that she would be attending Trump's rally in Pittsburgh on the same day, thereby endorsing the Republican candidate.

However, Megyn's announcement came as a shock for many given the commentator quoted Donald Trump and the "snake pit" of primetime cable news as the reason behind her leaving Fox News in 2017. As per Variety, Megyn Kelly appeared on The Ellen Show on September 20, 2017, wherein she mentioned that she left Fox News stating:

"I was never a political person, I wasn't raised in a political household, and it became clear to me it wasn't what I wanted to do, it's not who I am. And then, Donald Trump has a way of clarifying one's life choices, and that was true for me too."

Calling primetime cable a "snake pit", Megyn said that she didn't want to be in the pit and that it had a way of pulling one in over and over resulting in the snake pit becoming their life which she didn't want for herself.

Megyn Kelly's reference to Trump being one of the reasons behind her exit from Fox News dates back to August 7, 2015, wherein she called out the former president on sexist and misogynistic comments he made in the past which Trump called off-base and ridiculous.

Moreover, Trump referred to his interaction with Megyn on an interview with CNN's Don Lemon in August 2015 stating:

“You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes. Blood coming out of her wherever.”

Additionally, Megyn also mentioned that Donald Trump's tweets following their interaction acted as confirmation and clarification that she didn't want to be a part of the toxicity of cable news.

"He will be a protector of women and it’s why I’m voting for him"- Megyn Kelly mentions in closing message for Donald Trump

Joining Donald Trump on stage at his rally in Pittsburgh, Megyn Kelly helped the former president deliver his closing message. Talking about Trump being a protector of women, Megyn stated:

“He got mocked by the left by saying he would be a protector of women. He will be a protector of women and it’s why I’m voting for him. He will close the border and he will keep the boys out of women’s sports where they don’t belong.”

Moreover, in the video announcing her presence at the former president's rally in Pittsburgh via her The Megyn Kelly Show X account, the commentator mentioned that over the weekend, her team got an unexpected invitation from Team Trump to make some remarks on the former president's behalf or to explain why she was voting for him.

Megyn stated that she was going to proudly explain to the audience why she thinks it is "absolutely essential" that Trump wins the election and why people shouldn't put Kamala Harris into the Oval Office as the president.

Moreover, in the video Megyn mentioned that this election was the first time ever that she told the audience who she was voting for. She added that even though she's explained it in bits and pieces, she will be talking to the people of Pennsylvania about why they should vote for Trump, calling the region "one of the most critical swing states of all."

In her message informing people about her visit to Pittsburgh to endorse Trump, Megyn Kelly stated that she hopes the women, young, and old listen to her reasons. Megyn added that she thinks a lot of them believe "the lies they are being told" with respect to what Kamala Harris will be doing for women's abortion rights.
