Floyd Mayweather Sr. slams "pathetic" Conor McGregor after loss

Floyd Mayweather Jr. v Conor McGregor

Floyd Mayweather Jr. won in 10 rounds over Conor McGregor

What's the story?

The biggest fight in history between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. was watched across the world and drew a variety of reactions from viewers, with many hailing the Irishman as he showed great tenacity and courage to last 10 rounds before losing out via technical knockout.

However, Floyd Mayweather Sr., the boxer's father and coach slammed McGregor for his antics after the fight and said that his performance was "pathetic".

When asked about whether he was impressed by the 29-year-old MMA legend's show on an interview with MMAFighting.com, he said no and added, "I don't see nobody even talking the way he talk. Then to go out there and fight like that? Man, that was pathetic, I thought."

In case you didn't know

Mayweather Jr and McGregor faced off in the 'Money Fight' on Saturday evening in Las Vegas' T-Mobile Arena, which was billed as the most expensive fight ever. It was McGregor's first ever professional bout in the boxing ring and he was expected to have no chance against the American, who had an unblemished 49-0 record prior to the fight.

Once the fight began, McGregor came out all guns blazing and looked to catch Mayweather off guard. The experienced fighter bided his time and once the Irishman starting showing signs of fatigue, he went in for the kill and completed the win via technical knockout in Round 10.

The heart of the matter

McGregor's aggressive start also featured a few blows to the back of Mayweather's head, which displeased the latter's father a lot. He stated that such moves displayed why McGregor does not have it in him to be a boxer.

He further added that the Irishman should not continue boxing as it would put him in grave danger. He stated that what McGregor did was a 'failure' and that if he does go on fighting in the ring, someone might kill him.

What's next?

Mayweather Jr had earlier announced his retirement from boxing a while back but returned to fight McGregor after he was challenged by the Irishman. After this win, he stretches his career record to a mammoth 50-0, while McGregor is likely to return to his old UFC hunting ground.

Author's take

It is understandable why Mayweather Sr came up with such comments about McGregor as he offered little challenge to his opponent and was beaten fair and square in the end.
