Vijender Singh invites Floyd Mayweather for fight after Jake Paul beats Mike Tyson
India’s boxing legend Vijender Singh has invited the invincible Floyd Mayweather for a fight. Vijender extended the invitation after the epic clash between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Vijender, who holds the distinction for becoming the first Indian boxer with an Olympic medal when they won bronze in Beijing 2008, took to his X handle and wrote:
“Let’s do a fight with Floyd Mayweather in India”
Mayweather is deemed as one of the greatest boxers to have ever graced the game. He has a 50-0 record, out of which 27 wins came via knockouts. He also won the bronze medal in the featherweight category in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Mayweather competed between 1996 and 2017 and bagged 15 major world championship titles from light middleweight to super featherweight category. Having beaten opponents like Canelo Alvarez and Manny Pacquiao, Mayweather was a brute force in the world of boxing.
Vijender, on the other hand, is yet to announce his retirement, but hasn’t been seen in the ring since 2022. After becoming a professional back in 2015, Vijender went on an unbeaten streak in his first 12 professional bouts. He also bagged the WBO Asia-Pacific Super Middleweight title.
Tyson struggles against Paul
As far as the match between Tyson and Paul is concerned, the latter dominated and won by a unanimous decision. Paul won the match after the judges’ scoresheet read 80-72, 79-73, 79-73. The 58-year-old Tyson looked short of firepower, managing only 18 punches out of 97 attempts.
Paul was arguably the more fluent of the two against Tyson, who looked far his best inside the ring. The 27-year-old Paul has won 12 out of 13 fights, seven of which were by knockouts. His only loss came against Tommy Fury of England back in February 2023 in Saudi Arabia.
