Why Tyson Fury was the winner no matter the result | Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder
In some matches, the result doesn't matter. As soon as the bell rang on the match between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder, in the eyes of everyone there had to be only one winner.
It was the man who got knocked down twice but still got up, the man who had just two years ago given up on life and repeatedly tried to commit suicide, the man who weighed more than 400 pounds about 2 years ago.
He lost more than a hundred pounds and fought one of the hardest hitters ever in boxing, and almost beat him. It was a fight between two great fighters, and they put everything out there. But once one gets to know the story of Tyson Fury and what that man went through, you realise that it was not the outcome which was the most important thing in the fight.
It was redemption for Tyson as he came back from hell. Struggling from depression, serious mental issues, alcohol, drugs, and what not, to find himself again. He found the purpose in life which he had lost.
Tyson talks about it in his interview with BT Sports that as soon as he became world champion, nothing really mattered to him anymore. All the money in the world, all the luxury, all the fame, all the belts, they meant nothing to him. For 2 years he suffered and tried to kill himself as he just didn't see the point of existing anymore.
And from that point, he dragged himself out of it, lost more than 100 pounds, took on a world champion, and almost beat him. Tyson has become the poster boy for people suffering from mental Illness, but more than that, he's become an inspiration for many across the world suffering through the same, and has shown there is a way out if you persevere hard enough.
In so many ways, when the bell rang, Tyson Fury was already a winner.
