AEW Roster News: Kenny Omega signs with AEW, has a showdown with Chris Jericho
What's the story?
Many signings were made official at the AEW Double Or Nothing Ticket Announcement Party in Las Vegas, including some prominent names like the Lucha Bros. But All Elite Wrestling had saved the best for last!
Kenny Omega officially came on board as a member of the AEW roster during the show. And he also had a showdown with Chris Jericho to close the event.
In case you didn't know...
Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho are not strangers to one another. The two men had a 5-star clash at Wrestle Kingdom 12 last year where Kenny Omega went over.
The match was for the IWGP United States Championship and Chris Jericho created quite a stir by branching out to NJPW at the peak of his career. Jericho came on board as a member of the AEW Roster during the Jacksonville rally.
After a string of announcements, Kenny Omega would be the final signing for AEW in Las Vegas.
The heart of the matter
Kenny Omega will also serve as an Executive Vice President for All Elite Wrestling, according to the graphic that accompanied his arrival to the squared circle. When he showed up at the event, the crowd was absolutely thunderous in their response.
While he was addressing the audience, the familiar strains of Chris Jericho's theme song 'Judas' by Fozzy would be heard over the speakers. The two men got into an altercation on the stage and had to be separated by AEW officials. It is clear that the two of them are headed for a clash in the main event match of Double Or Nothing.
What's next?
With all due respect to all the other signings, Kenny Omega coming on board just launches AEW into a league of their own. The fact that he's serving as a member of the think tank for AEW is a big deal as well. It is clear that All Elite Wrestling will be run by The Elite, going forward.
