What's the story?

The professional wrestling world seems utterly convinced that Ricochet is on his way to WWE sooner rather than later.

In case you didn't know

For many years now, Ricochet has been one of the hottest properties in all of the professional wrestling. At 29, the former Helios has grown from being an all-out high flyer to one of the most rounded performers in the entire industry, a master of body control and storytelling within the squared circle.

Ricochet has won championships and tournaments all over the world. He was the first ever Lucha Underground Champion, he is the only man to win PWG's Battle of Los Angeles on two occasions and he won gold in NJPW, CHIKARA and Dragon Gate.

The heart of the matter

Ricochet has been teaming with Ryusuke Taguchi in NJPW recently, and the duo came up short in defending the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships at King of Pro Wrestling against the returning Roppongi 3K. Ricochet gave the Tokyo Sumo Hall a longing look on the way, fuelling rumours that he was on his way out of the company.

Wrestling journalists all over the world have taken this as a surefire sign that he is on his way to WWE. It has been reported that the 2017 Cueto Cup winner has stopped taking bookings, and will wrap up his indie dates at the end of this year.

Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer have speculated on his moves over the last few days, among many others. Ricochet's Lucha Underground contract (where he works as Prince Puma) forbids him from appearing on another wrestling promotion's television until 90 days after the final LU episode - meaning he will be free from January 17, 2018.

What's next?

Ricochet recently won PWG's Battle of Los Angeles for the second time and has set his sights on winning the PWG World Championship, a title that has evaded him throughout his career. He is set to challenge Chuck Taylor for the title on the second night of PWG All Star Weekend, which takes place on October 21.

It truly feels like a case of 'when' and not 'if' when it comes to Ricochet and WWE.

Author's take

Ricochet has all of the talents in the world and could be a major star in WWE. The worry is that time and again WWE has shown that it doesn't know how to book smaller wrestlers, and Ricochet may end up findinh himself in 205 Live purgatories. He deserves better.
