Impact Wrestling News: Former World Champion signs multi-year deal
What's the story?
Eddie Edwards has been one of Impact Wrestling's most consistent performers. He's been planted firmly in the upper card for the past few years now, taking on the best that the company has to offer, and it looks like he won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
In case you didn't know...
Back in 2014, Eddie Edwards, along with his American Wolves tag team partner Davey Richards, signed on with Impact Wrestling. The duo quickly made it to the top of the tag team division, defeating teams like The BroMans, The Hardy Boyz, and Team 3D in their first year with the company, capturing the TNA Tag Team Titles in a month.
By 2016, due to an injury Richards suffered, Edwards was moved to singles competition, where he would defeat Trevor Lee for the X-Division Championship and Bobby Lashley for the Impact World Heavyweight Championship in the same year, becoming Impact Wrestling's eighth Triple Crown Champion.
Since then, Edwards has been a mainstay in the upper card of Impact, facing top talents like Eli Drake, Austin Aries, and Sami Callihan, the latter of whom worked with Edwards to create the company's most controversial storyline last year.
During a botched spot, Callihan accidentally slammed a bat on Edwards' face, causing him to miss a short amount of time. That spot managed to both elevate Callihan as a top heel in the company and serve as the jumping off point for Edwards' metamorphosis into Impact's new Hardcore Icon.
The heart of the matter
On Twitter today, Josh Mathews revealed that Edwards had signed a long-term multi-year deal with Impact Wrestling. Edwards was over the moon, and when asked about his short term goals at the moment, stated that he wanted to help take Impact to the next level.
What's next?
Edwards is one of Impact's best talents and is currently involved in a feud with another former World Champion, Eli Drake. Josh Mathews revealed in the video that Impact would reveal news of another signing on February 17th.
Will it be another star planning to stick with Impact and help build the brand, or will they bring someone new in to change things up a bit? We'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out.
