Impact Wrestling News: Former X Division Champion gone from the company
What’s the Story?
Impact Wrestling Superstar Rockstar Spud is no longer wrestling for Impact Wrestling according to a report published by PWInsider.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Spud began his professional wrestling career in Birmingham, England but would branch out to the United States, Europe and other parts of the United Kingdom.
Spud is mostly known for his run in Impact Wrestling that began in 2012 following his victory in the reality show TNA Wrestling: British Boot Camp. Spud would go on to win the X-Division Championship
The Heart of the Matter
Though the news of Spud’s status with Impact Wrestling broke today, PWInsider reported that Spud was released by the company earlier this month; approximately two to three weeks ago.
Spud is one of several wrestlers or employees who have left the company in 2017. Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Reby Hardy, Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis, Al Snow, Pat Kenny, Shane Helms, Adam and Luster of Reno Scum are some of the wrestlers who have left Impact wrestling so far this year and there could be more names to come.
What’s Next?
The controversy surrounding the Impact Wrestling name change and the Jeff Jarrett situation have already increased dissenting opinions amongst wrestling fans and the release of another Impact superstar may only increase Impact’s negative perception.
Impact Wrestling is rumored to be in talks with Tessa Blanchard and Ricochet (Prince Puma) and acquiring those two could benefit the product by giving fans more favorites from the independent scene.
Author’s Take
There have been several wrestlers and employees leaving Impact Wrestling since Anthem Sports acquired a majority stake in the promotion and it doesn’t seem to be stopping any time soon.
Rockstar Spud may not be the last wrestler to add “former Impact Wrestling” superstar to his resume as we near the end of 2017.
