Khelo India 2019: Haryana reiterate position as the wrestling powerhouse
Pune, Jan 13 (PTI) Haryana reiterated their position as the premier wrestling powerhouse bagging 24 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals at the Khelo India Youth Games here Sunday.
Such was Haryana's dominance that they won more gold medals than all other states put together.
Maharashtra finished second, a media release said.
Though Delhi boys showed impressive performance on the first day in the Greco Roman category, winning nine medals including five gold medals, they failed to maintain the momentum and added just one gold medal later on.
From Maharashtra, U-17 80kg freestyle wrestler Vetal Shelke, a ward of noted coach Kaka Pawar, grabbed the gold medal, the release added.
Haryana's dominance extends to women's section too and it bagged 12 out of 14 gold medals despite missing international stars like Anshu and Sonam.
