What's the story?

Chris Jericho had a brutal and incredibly enjoyable match for the IWGP Intercontinental Title against Tetsuya Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 13. It would prove to be a bad day for Jericho though, as not only did he lose the match, but he also left the Tokyo Dome with some nasty looking wounds.

In case you didn't know...

Chris Jericho made his NJPW debut at Wrestle Kingdom 12, taking on fellow Canadian Kenny Omega in a really good match. Since then he'd go on to face Tetsuya Naito, EVIL and then Naito again a full year later during this week's Wrestle Kingdom 13.

Jericho's rematch with Naito was also changed from a normal stipulation match to a No Disqualification match, which will go some way to explaining the injuries that Jericho showed up that we'll show you now!

The heart of the matter

After the match, which saw Tetsuya Naito regain the IWGP Intercontinental Championship after losing it to Jericho several months ago, Jericho took to social media to show off the brutal injuries that he sustained at the hands of Naito.

As you can see from the photos it certainly looks like Naito wasn't holding back with those Kendo shots.

What's even more incredible is that when you look at the damage Jericho sustained and the match he put on, and then consider how old he is and how he's still able to take shots like that, him having a match as good as he did is mind-blowing.

What's next?

Jericho's future in the wrestling business is up in the air with several options available for him. He could return to WWE and have another run there, he could stay with New Japan Pro Wrestling and wrestle some different faces, or he can, as he's been rumored to, join All Elite Wrestling.
