Pro Wrestling News: Ric Flair praises Conrad Thompson and his upcoming roast at Starrcast II
What's the story?
It was announced over the last few days that 'The Roast of Ric Flair' would be the headliner for the upcoming Starrcast II next month.
Flair recently spoke with CBS Sports about a variety of topics about the wrestling world, including his return to Las Vegas for the roast as well as about the man behind Starrcast II, Conrad Thompson. 411mania.com carried transcripts of Flair's interview.
In case you missed it...
Starrcast's initial show took place in September 2018 and coincided with the first-ever production of All Elite Wrestling, All In.
This year, Starrcast II will kick off the weekend before AEW's second show ever, Double or Nothing, takes place on Saturday, May 25th, on the following day.
The heart of the matter
Flair was supposed to be roasted last September but had a prior commitment that prevented him from attending. Bruce Prichard was roasted instead.
Since Flair is officially on the schedule for the festivities during Starrcast II, he spoke with CBS Sports about the roast as well as several other topics. The roast will take place in Las Vegas, a town that seems was tailor-made for both the character and the man known as Ric Flair.
“I’ve got a lot of history with Caesar’s Palace. Oh God, it was a regular stop in the 80s and 90s, I’m lucky to be here and every day is a blessing. But one of those reasons is Las Vegas. I’ve had a couple of drinks in that town!”
'The Nature Boy' was also asked about his thoughts about the founder and man behind Starrcast in Conrad Thompson.
“Conrad is probably one of the most innovative people I’ve ever met in my life. He has been so successful actually starting at the lowest position possible in a [mortgage] company that he now owns. To be able to come out and start a whole new empire, he has revolutionized the podcast world already.”
It was revealed earlier this week that several comedians, like Ron Funches and Mike Lawrence, as well as wrestling personalities like Jim Ross and Ricky 'the Dragon' Steamboat would be a part of the roast.
What's next?
Knowing a good deal about Flair's history should only make the roast even more fun for Flair and fans alike.
Every story that comes up during the roast made Flair who he is and is why he is one of the most beloved performers in professional wrestling history.
