Who will be the inaugural WWE Women's Tag Team Champions?
Long time WWE fans know that there was a time in the past that the promotion did indeed have a women's tag team division. During a time when the WWWF, precursor to the modern WWE, was a part of the National Wrestling Alliance, their roster members Princess Victoria and Velvet McIntyre were the reigning NWA Women's tag team champions. When the WWWF withdrew from the NWA, the duo were recognized as the inaugural WWWF Women's Tag Team Champions.
They would be one of only three tandems to hold the women's tag team gold. The other teams were the Glamour Girls (Leilani Kai and Judy Martin, managed by Jimmy Hart) and the Jumping Bomb Angels (Japanese stars Noriyu Tateno and Itzuki Yamazaki.)
The tag team belts were retired with little fanfare in 1989, which is when WWE unofficially folded its women's divisions to focus more on male superstars.
Fast forward to 2019, and women's wrestling is bigger than ever in the WWE. Women have main evented PPVs, and have even had an entire event dedicated just to them: Evolution.
The WWE Women's Tag Team titles are making their triumphant return at Elimination Chamber. But which of the six teams will walk away with the gold and make history?
Tag Team #1: The Boss N Hug Connection
One of the favorites to win the Elimination Chamber match is the Boss N Hug Connection, AKA The Boss Sasha Banks and the Hugger Bayley. The duo have often been at odds, but over the last year have forged a solid alliance and are gelling nicely as a tag team.
Strengths: Probably the most technically precise team in the event, as well as having years of experience. They also have already competed in an Elimination Chamber match, unlike the majority of their opponents.
Weaknesses: The duo are giving up a lot of size and strength to some of their opponents, and there's always the question of just how deeply their friendship runs. A sudden betrayal could happen at Elimination Chamber.
Odds of winning the WWE Women's Tag Team titles: 50-50. The Boss N Hug Connection are quite popular with the fans, but lingering questions over the solidity of their team remain.
