WWE/Impact Wrestling News: Two former WWE stars backstage at Impact tapingsĀ
What's the story?
Tonight's Impact tapings from Orlando, Florida have a couple of familiar faces backstage since former WCW and WWE star Scott Steiner and Tommy Dreamer have both been spotted and could play a role in the shows that are set to be pre-recorded.
In case you didn't know...
Scott Steiner was a huge star in WWE and WCW in the 1990s and early 2000s, but it seems that when he returned to Raw back in 2002, he wasn't the same star that the WWE Universe remembered. The same could be said for Tommy Dreamer, who recently returned to WWE back in 2015 to help The Dudley Boys in their feud against The Wyatt Family.
Dreamer has a history of working with Impact and was part of the company for a number of years up until 2015, Steiner is seemingly in the same boat having worked for Impact Wrestling for four years between 2006 and 2010 and then again in 2011.
Both Dreamer and Steiner are regarded as legends in the eyes of the WWE Universe, legends who deserve to be seen on TV a few more times and it's great that Impact Wrestling is giving them that chance.
The heart of the matter
According to a report from PWInsider, it seems that Tommy Dreamer and Scott Steiner are backstage at tonight's Impact Wrestling tapings. There is no word on what Steiner's role as part of tonight's show actually is, but he did make an appearance last year back at their Slammiversary show.
Dreamer is said to be working backstage at the taping and is actually scheduled to wrestle whilst Jerry Lynn was reported to have been working in a backstage capacity at Sunday Night's taping.
What's next?
These Impact tapings won't be seen on TV for a number of weeks, but the spoilers in a few hours will reveal what Steiner's job at tonight's show actually is. Impact have lost a lot of talent over the past few weeks, so it could be a way for the company to paper over the cracks.
Author's take
Scott Steiner and Tommy Dreamer are respected legends in the wrestling world and Impact tapings that are competing with Monday Night Raw had to have some kind of pull to ensure that there was some kind of an audience. It would be great to see what kind of shape Steiner is in at this point in his career since he could be a good shout for one final run in WWE if Vince McMahon believes he can deliver.
