WWE News: Chris Jericho talks about his life after WWE, match against Kenny Omega and Ring of Honor
What's the story?
9-time Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho recently sat down to have an interview with Rolling Stone, during which he talked about his life after WWE, potentially signing with Ring of Honor and his match against Kenny Omega.
In case you didn't know…
Chris Jericho is all set to make his return to NJPW in 2018 as he is all set to challenge Bullet Club leader Kenny Omega for the IWGP US Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12.
Jericho will also host the first-ever wrestling event on a cruise ship, the Cruise of Jericho, in 2018. The Cruise of Jericho will feature top Ring of Honor superstars including Bullet Club members Marty Scurll, Cody Rhodes, and The Young Bucks.
The heart of the matter
During the interview with Rolling Stone, Jericho discussed a host of topics including his Cruise of Jericho event, his match against Kenny Omega, and also him potentially signing for Ring of Honor
On the Cruise of Jericho event:
Jericho revealed that he came up with the idea from "Kiss Kruise" in 2015, where Fozzy performed. Jericho also stated that he was blown away by how much fun he had at the event and thought to himself that he was completely capable of hosting a similar type of event.
The former WWE World Champion said that the original plan was to name the event "The Chris Cruise".
On his plans to ever join Ring of Honor:
Jericho said that it was not his decision and it was up to ROH management if they ever want to sign "The Ayatollah of Rock 'n' Rolla". The 47-year-old claimed that he won't be hanging around with ROH and his only association with the promotion is that they've been helping Jericho with the Cruise of Jericho event.
I'm not going to be hanging around Ring of Honor. My association with them is that they're putting on an amazing tournament on my cruise and that's kind of the extent of it.
If he pitched the idea of Alpha vs Omega at WK 12:
Jericho said that the idea was originally pitched to him and it was something that he agreed on. He also added that NJPW commentator Don Callis was the original innovator of the match. Callis apparently took the idea to Kenny Omega, who took it to NJPW and soon negotiations began.
So, once I kind of signed off on it, the guy, Don Callis who pitched it to me took it to Kenny and then Kenny took it to New Japan and negotiations began.
What's next?
Chris Jericho will look forward to winning the IWGP US Heavyweight Title come January 4th at the Tokyo Dome. He likely won't, but it should be a great match
Author's Take
The Cruise of Jericho event is definitely a great innovation and will indeed be history-making. Hopefully, it succeeds and The Cruise Jericho will eventually become a thing.
