WWE Rumor Mill: Backstage news on WWE following up on Smackdown being decimated at Survivor Series
What’s the story?
It appears that WWE is planning to follow up on the storyline of RAW getting a clean sweep at Survivor Series; however, according to Dave Meltzer, that story won’t start until 2019.
In Case You Didn’t Know…
At Survivor Series 2019, RAW absolutely decimated Smackdown on the main card with the announcers putting it over as a clean sweep. The next night on the flagship show, the 6-0 was mentioned throughout the broadcast and the main catalyst for Baron Corbin possibly being put as the permenant GM for the Monday night show.
However since then, the company has barely acknowledged the clean sweep and the blue brand has actually recognized the Smackdown Elimination tag team’s victory despite being told over and over again at Survivor Series that the kickoff show match didn’t count.
Sources claim the original plan saw Shane McMahon addressing RAW dominating the blue brand on the main card at Survivor Series. In fact, Shane made an ominous tweet noting that change was going to come the following Tuesday after Survivor Series:
This was ultimately set to turn the Smackdown Commissioner heel as the company has been slowly building up to a character change for Shane since Crown Jewel.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Shane McMahon winning the world cup tournament was set to kick off a heel turn for the Smackdown Live GM; however, the company held off on Shane going heel as there hasn’t been much signs that Mr. “Best in the World” will be undergoing a character change soon.
The heart of the matter
However, according to Dave Meltzer, the plan is for the follow-up of Smackdown being dominated at Survivor Series to pick-up sometime in January when WrestleMania season kicks off.
What’s Next?
There’s no exact word on who Shane will face at WrestleMania 35. The commissioner was originally set to face Daniel Bryan at the grandest stage of them all, but plans changed when the company decided to turn Bryan heel. As of now, sources claim that The Miz will possibly be Shane McMahon's opponent at WrestleMania 35.
