Jujutsu Beatdown Air Combat guide

Jujutsu Beatdown is an arena fighter experience featuring characters from the iconic anime and manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen. The game emphasizes the mastery of combat mechanics, which is what defines the skill floor and ceiling in the experience. One such fundamental mechanic to master is Air Combat, which allows you to continue your combo while in mid-air.

Let’s take a look at Air Combat and how to use it in battle in Jujustu Beatdown.

Air Combat is a combo mode that is triggered when you Air Counter an opponent while in mid-air. This requires you to perform an Air Dash while next to an airborne enemy, a maneuver that can be executed using the Jump and Dash buttons. By default, these motions are tied to the Spacebar and Q keys on the keyboard.

A successful Air Counter preserves your momentum in the air and lets you continue your combo for longer than usual. You can either strike your target down with a basic Air Combo (using the Left Mouse Button) or extend it with skills and Cursed Energy (E by default).

While in hitstun, your opponent will find no opportunities to escape the flurry of attacks, as long as your inputs are timed well.

Air Counters can be difficult to perform without a combo starter, simply because they can be extremely situational in practice. If the opponent doesn’t jump very often, you simply won’t find an opening to initiate an Air Combat string.

This can be worked around using an uppercut, which requires you to press the Spacebar and Left Mouse Button simultaneously. An uppercut can be used at the end of a normal attack string, creating the opportunity needed to use the Air Counter.

What makes Air Counters particularly useful is that they activate even when your target is in a ragdolled state. While they can be blocked in neutral, the opponent will not be able to do so if they are already in hitstun after an uppercut. Use this tool to enter Air Combat mode and catch fleeing or overly defensive enemies.

Air Combat mode can also still be triggered if the opponent blocks the Air Counter. After a Counter is blocked, both players must take action to win priority and start a combo.

Note that Air Counters are meant to be an offensive tool that lets you maneuver in mid-air. Once you perform it, you will enter a cooldown state during which Air Counters will simply not trigger. This keeps the mechanic from being used as an easy escape tool and instead keeps the focus on initiating combat.
