On May 8, 2016, at exactly 11am UTC the Wings for Life World Run will simultaneously start all over the world. Wings for Life is an international not-for-profit spinal cord research foundation whose mission is to find a cure for spinal cord injury. 100% of the entry fee goes towards spinal cord research.

The Wings for Life World Run is not a regular marathon. All over the world, everyone taking part starts running at exactly the same time. Thirty minutes after the start of the race, at 4:30 pm IST, a Catcher Car sets off at each location. As long as runners outrun the car, they remain in the race.

Once passed by the Catcher Car, their race is over. This continues until there is a single man and single woman left running. Only they will be crowned the Global Champions of the Wings for Life World Run. This year, in India, the Catcher Car will be piloted by ace Indian motorsport racer CS Santosh.

The event will take place in up to 40 locations spread across 6 continents, in countries including India, the USA, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Italy and Ireland among others.

The runners could face any manner of climates, light conditions and terrains, depending on the country they run in. Participants could run the marathon in the heat and humidity of the Indian sub-continent amidst high-rises and concrete jungles, or the Australian outback amidst real ones, all at the same time.

In India, the event will take place in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. On May 8, 2016, at 4:30 pm local time, the race will kick off from the Sabarmati Riverfront.

Ahmedabad is expected to be the hottest venue of the Wings for Life World Run this year, with temperatures expected to reach well above 40 degrees, and the humidity will also be pretty high, around 80%.

The event is not restricted to athletes or seasoned runners; first timers, enthusiasts, fitness freaks and sports fanatics are all welcome to participate. The event is also open to wheelchair users worldwide.

You can read more about the event at http://www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com/. For those who haven’t been able to participate, a live stream of the event will be made available on the Sportskeeda website.
