Asics launched the latest iteration of its popular training and running shoe in the fourth quarter of 2015 – Asics GT-2000 4 is out now. Earlier this year, Asics also launched GT-2000 3; that was a great running shoe. As a result, the fourth generation of the GT-2000 series has big shoes to fill.
This generation of GT-2000 promises a lot. However, can it deliver? Continue reading to out more about this shoe from Asics.
Short answer: Yes, it can.

Coming to the most important aspect of any shoe – the fit. Asics GT-2000 4 has a snug fit. This shoe is true to its size and is very comfortable. GT-2000 4 is available in various widths as well. A size 9 men’s shoe weighs around 307g. With a 10mm heel-to-toe drop, expect good amounts of ground feel with this generation of GT-2000. This shoe offers moderate support and is best suited to roads/flat terrain.
Regarding the styling aspect, this shoe is very much similar to other silos offered by Asics. Currently, there are four colorways. The traditional Asics styling in seen on both the sides of the shoe. With contrasting colors, these shoes manage to stand out in a crowd.
An open mesh covers most of the upper for enhanced breathability. For improved lace tension, Asics introduced independently placed eyelets. ComforDry sock-liner offers additional cushioning and ultimately enhances the comfort. The anti-bacterial material used cuts down odor and controls moisture. An exoskeleton holds your heel in place during workouts for a safe fit.
We see Asics’s iconic GEL cushioning system covering the midsole both in the forefoot and in the rearfoot areas of the shoe. This offers supreme sock absorption during impact and is similar to what we see with GT-2000 3. GEL cushioning system is one of the best cushioning systems available in the running shoe industry.
Alongside this, the cushioning system is gender specific. For a much better and a much balanced heel-to-toe transition, Asics introduced IGS (Impact Guidance System). Guidance Trusstic System offers superior torsional rigidity. Support levels are excellent with this shoe. Not only that, FluidRide and Solyte cushioning systems deliver responsive cushioning.
Coming to the outsole, we see AHAR (Asics High Abrasion Rubber). AHAR offers exceptional durability along with tremendous traction. A Guidance Line on the outsole improves the gait cycle efficiency.
Asics GT-2000 4 offers consistent support during short runs and is very stable during workouts. The GT-2000 4 tries to balance the two sides of the coin here – workouts and running. It does a fine job with it as well. It is a great shoe for both workouts and mild jogging. If you are looking for a shoe that is decent for both workouts and running; then, this shoe is for you. On the other hand, if you are looking for a great CrossFit training shoe, try Nike’s Metcon 1.
Asics GT-2000 4 retails at $120 i.e., around 7,500INR. Availability in India is TBA.
Bottom-line: Reliable and consistent.
