Calicut Mini Marathon 2016: The largest student-run marathon in the country

The marathon is organised by IIM Kozhikode students

Heard of the largest student-run marathon in the country? Have you ever run along a beautiful beach and through a lush green city? Yes, all this is true and you can witness it on the 28th of February if you run the Calicut Mini Marathon's 6th edition.

Organized by the students of Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIM Kozhikode), it has grown to its current stature in a matter of just six years. Over the past six years, the marathon has been upholding a unique cause every year - having focused on critical issues of women empowerment, rights of differently-abled people, waste management, organ donation and road safety in the past.

Eminent personalities such as Mr. P. Sainath, Actor-Director Revathy, Actor Jayaram, Actor-Director Vineet Sreenivasan, Mr Shashi Tharoor and Mr. Jayaprakash Narayan have pledged their support for the social causes upheld by the past editions of the marathon.

The theme for this year’s marathon is ‘Compassionate Kozhikode’. The Kozhikode district administration’s brainchild, Compassionate Kozhikode through its initiatives such as Operation Sulaimani and Savari Giri provides a platform for social good. The city of Kozhikode is well known for its warmth and hospitality and the kindness of its people.

It is this feeling of compassion that Calicut Marathon and IIM Kozhikode wish to celebrate and promote.

Starting at Calicut Beach, the marathon route runs along the beach and into the city, to end at the beach. The marathon features two categories, a 10 km mini marathon which is a competitive race and a 3 km “Dream Run”, a non-competitive run featuring people from all walks of life.

Prizes worth two lakhs will be given to the winners of the mini marathon.
