Dandi Salt Challenge, World's1st Heritage Marathon & Cycle race

Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson, Tushar Gandhi, announced the launch of Dandi Salt Challenge 2019  series of endurance events to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary (Oct 2nd, 2019) of the Father of The Nation.

The Dandi Salt Challenge is the 1st Heritage Marathon & Cycle Race (Ccyclothon). It is set to take place from 12th March 2019 to 21st March 2019 and will consist of three types of endurance races, the March (Walkathon), Marathon and Cycling (Cyclothon.) This challenge will be the ultimate endurance test, which will be celebrated as an annual event to glorify the fortitude of all individual participants and India’s glorious history. Spanning across the epic route of the Dandi Path, a heritage route in Gujarat NH64; the challenge will start from the historic Sabarmati Ashram and will end at Dandi, covering a total of 401 kilometers. The participants will halt at the same places where Gandhiji and his followers halted after their day’s march. This is an opportunity to re-live the heritage and gain an experience of a lifetime.

The Dandi March or Salt Satyagraha was a major nonviolent protest action in India led by Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi in March–April 1930. Gandhiji decided to mount a highly visible demonstration against the increasingly repressive salt tax by marching from his ashram at Sabarmati to the town of Dandi on the Arabian Sea coast. He set out on foot on March 12, accompanied by his followers.
