New Delhi Marathon 2016 participants complete 12-hour stadium run
The first edition of the New Delhi Marathon special event, the 12 Hour stadium run was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on 27th Dec 2015. This was a special event in the build-up to the main event which is slated for 28th Feb 2016.
Supporting the Swacch Bharat campaign, this event aims at creating awareness about this campaign. It was a resounding success, with over 25 participants in the 12 Hour Stadium Run category including celebrity runner Milind Soman and one female contestant, Shibani Garat. Each participant ran around the 400mtr track for the entire period of time.
A running event with a distance greater than 42.2 km is known as an ultra. This event follows an international format and has been introduced with a vision of popularising running within the community, and managed to do exactly that when the ultrarunners inspired the spectators to join the run for a few laps on their own.
