November 17, 2017, New Delhi: The second edition of the 5-city JK Cement SwachhAbility Run-2017 concluded in Bengaluru recently. The run witnessed enthusiastic participants, with participation from over 13,000 people from all walks of life, making it a huge success.

The JK Cement SwachhAbility Run was flagged off on November 5 in Goa, before moving to Belagavi, Hubballi, Mangaluru and Bengaluru. After the run, the participants including divyangs (people with disabilities) helped run a cleanliness drive in each city.

The JK Cement SwachhAbility Run draws its inspiration from the spirit of selfless service, epitomized by The Indian Army. It is the brainchild of Kargil War veteran and India’s first blade runner, Major DP Singh, and stands in support of two extremely important causes --Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship initiative of Swachha Bharat and inclusion of people with disabilities as equals in the society. Major DP Singh, who has participated in over 22 marathons, led from the front and also participated in the run.

Major Singh said, “We are absolutely delighted with the response from the participants, given the importance of the run. The need of the hour is instilling confidence in Divyangs across the country and also changing the perception of society towards them by making them showcase their hidden abilities by performing on ground. I believe that JK Cement SwachhAbility Run will go a long way in achieving this objective.”

Mr. Raghavpat Singhania, J.K. Cement Ltd said, “We are extremely grateful to all the participants who helped us make the 2nd edition of JK Cement SwachhAbility a resounding success. The enthusiasm of everyone including the students and divyangs was infectious and we look forward to taking this movement to greater heights in the times to come. The mission of SwachhAbility resonates with JK Cement’s core philosophy and values of giving back to the society and we are proud to be a part of this epic initiative.”

The event included two categories of runs --10km and 3km. 10 km run, which is a timed race, was open for all to participate. However, to encourage more participation towards the cause, 3 km run was conducted simultaneously.

JK Cement SwachhAbility Run also partnered with non-profit organisations like ‘The Challenging Ones’ and ‘Flags of Honour’ to drive this initiative.
