Awesome infrastructure, warm hospitality, decent weather and a good level of competition, Singapore does give all the ingredients that participants look forward to in a race.
Even though there was a slight rise in the humidity, the 4:30 AM start was very welcoming among the runners. This is something which is not usual in marathon races. And the early morning start was one of the top points of the marathon. The excitement of the participants was there to see as they started pouring in at 2:00 AM in the morning.
This time around, the organisers had a new route all together for both the Half and Full marathons with the starting line from the F1 Pit Building. The route was challenging and tricky with sharp turns but overall, the Elite Marathon Runners were quite happy with the map.
Kenya's Joshua Kipkorir won the Elite Men's title and quoted, "Singapore is a great country where I wanted to come. The country is good and it felt nice to win my debut race here."
Elite Wheelchair Runners were all in praise for the route and suggested some minor changes to that would enhance the athlete experience.
The event kicked off with the Kid's Dash that took place at Universal Studios in Sentosa Island. The doors were open for kids of all age to come and race along with their parents after which they were presented with medals and a coupon which enabled them to take free rides at the theme park.
Overall, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2018 was a successful event which was enjoyed by people of all generations. Apart from the localites, close to ten thousand runners came to Singapore to experience this marathon event. Over 3,600 people flew from India alone which is quite fascinating and the organisers believe that this number will keep on growing as they make this event a global event similar to the likes of Boston Marathon, New York City Marathon, and likewise.
