Preview: Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2016
The year’s first major marquee marathon, the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon will be held on the Sunday, 17th of January, 2016 and be telecast live.
Here’s a preview of the route, and what you should expect from the marathon:
Registration:
As it is a major marathon, registrations are closed.
All those over 18 are eligible to run in the marathon as long as they qualify as being able to participate in a marathon.
Race categories:
Full Marathon:
At a standard distance of 42.195km, the full marathon is open to all participants who have met the eligibility criteria to participate.
Half Marathon:
Run over 21.097km, the half marathon is, as the full marathon, open to all runners who meet qualification criteria for the marathon.
Corporate Champions:
Run over the full marathon distance of 42.195km, the Corporate Champions run involves corporate teams of 4 runners participating in a relay race over that distance. Firms who have registered for the marathon can field their own teams of 4, with each member covering a little over 10km. Firms may field multiple teams.
Dream Run:
This is targeted at younger marathoners. Those who are aged 12 by marathon day may participate in the Dream Run, and will cover a distance of 6km.
Senior Citizens’ Run:
Targeted at those 60 years of age and above on race day, those who run the senior citizen’s run will cover a distance of 4.3km.
Champions with Disability:
One of the few marathons to be inclusive of those with disabilities, the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon has opened the Champions with Disability category to all those over the age of 12 who suffer from physical/locomotor disability, intellectual impairment, visual impairment, hearing impairment and orthopedic or neurological disorders.
Prize Money:
Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 winners of the marathon across a general category, top 10 Indian runners. Divisions for prizes among amateur runners are also made on the basis of age categories.
Route:
Organisers have mapped out routes for each category of the race.
All categories will be flagged off at Mumbai’s Azad Maidan, near the Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus.
Runners for the full and half-marathons will be flagged off at 5:40 a.m., while elite marathoners will be flagged off 7:20a.m.
