Karen Huh on Bulletproof 360's work with U.S. Ski & Snowboard, Seattle sports & more
Back in November, U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced an exciting new partnership with Bulletproof 360 a leading science-based food and beverage company, focusing on their widely popular Bulletproof Coffee beverage. Bulletproof’s iconic coffee beverage is not your average latte; it is made with Brain Octane Oil and grass-fed butter to provide a quick and reliable energy source throughout the day.
As U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s official coffee supplier, Bulletproof 360 will help keep the world’s top ski and snowboard athletes fueled, focused and achieving optimum performance levels on and off the slopes. This partnership kicked off at 2018's Killington Cup in Killington, Vermont where both spectators and fans at home watched female national and international alpine ski superstars debut the Bulletproof branded race bib during the Giant Slalom event.
The Killington Cup was notably the only domestic stop for the women of the alpine ski team, including two-time Olympic gold medalist Mikaela Shiffrin who will seek a third consecutive top finish at the venue. Bulletproof also supported athletes at the Toyota U.S. Grand Prix Copper Mountain Freeski and Snowboard event in December, with plenty of 2019 U.S. Ski & Snowboard events coming up.
Karen Huh, VP of Brand and Product Strategy of Bulletproof 360 said: “We’re thrilled to support some of the most elite athletes in the world and help them achieve peak performance levels with Bulletproof Coffee... We offer products that enable anyone to perform at the top of their game. These are competitions where athletes are looking to optimize their control, speed, and focus, and Bulletproof Coffee offers just that.”
I had the pleasure of doing Q&A with Karen Huh herself. The Seattle-based branding expert answered questions about Bulletproof's work with U.S. Ski & Snowboard and more. Additional info on this collaboration can be found online at www.bulletproof.com.
How did U.S. Ski & Snowboard wind up working with Bulletproof 360? Did one side reach out to the other?
Karen Huh: The partnership developed organically as it appeared to be a natural fit for both parties. As the discussions began it was obvious that Bulletproof and U.S. Ski & Snowboard had a natural cohesion of goals.
Your partnership kicked off in November at the Killington Cup. Can you tell me more about other upcoming collaborations with U.S. Ski & Snowboard?
Karen Huh: As we continue to build upon the partnership, we have plans to join the U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes at 3 more events this season with on-site activation samplings of Bulletproof Coffee and sharing the benefits of our brand with event attendees.
In addition, we are working on a digital campaign that will highlight why Bulletproof Coffee is perfect for U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes to enjoy while they focus on performing their best. The campaign will include some eye-catching visuals as well as integration with team trainers on both Bulletproof and U.S. Ski & Snowboard social channels. With the partnership still being young, there are some other exciting developments still in the works.
U.S. Ski & Snowboard aside, who else in the sports world is Bulletproof working with?
Karen Huh: Bulletproof has been fortunate to partner with and continuously support top athletes across a wide range of sports including Nick Foles, last year’s Super Bowl MVP, and Stacia Bank, a world-renowned wake surfer and Guinness World Record holder for the most spins in 60 seconds.
Do you have a favorite of the Bulletproof products available?
Karen Huh: I start almost every day with a hot cup of Bulletproof Coffee. It’s about 20 ounces of coffee, 2 tablespoons of Brain Octane Oil, a dollop of Bulletproof Ghee, and two scoops of collagen protein. These are my go-to products. I’m also a big fan of the Apple Pie Collagen Protein Bar, especially if I miss lunch!
When not busy with Bulletproof, how do you like to spend your free time?
Karen Huh: I love reading, particularly cookbooks. And yes, that does mean I love cooking and eating out too. I have a long bucket list of restaurants I’d love to hit across the country. I also enjoy working out and pushing fitness boundaries -- primarily via running and CrossFit. However, I am happy just being plain silly with my kids, and finding ways to completely wear them out so they don’t fight bedtime!
What was the last sporting event you attended for fun?
Karen Huh: I watched the Seattle Sounders play the Philly Union this past September. I must have been a bad luck charm because they lost a 9-game winning streak in the 93rd minute of that match. (laughs)
Who do you think is going to win the Super Bowl this year?
Karen Huh: I was rooting for the Eagles, but now I feel like the Saints are going to take it. I’ve always been in awe of Drew Brees since his days with the San Diego Chargers.
Finally, Karen, any last words for the kids?
Karen Huh: I’ve recently been inspired to take up skiing again after taking a 20-year hiatus. I tried snowboarding for a while, but I never really excelled at it. I’ve discovered skiing is one of the best ways to beat the winter blues here in Seattle!
