American skier Lindsey Vonn equalled the record of overall World Cup wins Sunday at the Italian resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo. Vonn recorded her 62nd victory in the women's downhill in Alpine skiing, reports Xinhua.

The 30-year-old equalled the record of Austrian Annemarie Moser-Proell, who competed between 1970 and 1980.

“It means a lot,” Vonn said. “Both my parents haven’t been able to come to any World Cups. My mother because she couldn’t afford it and my father because we weren’t speaking for a long time. And now I feel like everything is great with my family and, to have my mum come to her first European World Cup and see my 62nd win is something very special.”

Vonn could have reached the landmark earlier, but an 18-month injury absence postponed her effort to reach the feat.
