3 Possible endings for the WWE World Heavyweight Title Match at Wrestlemania 31
The build-up for the main event of Wrestlemania 31 has been rather bleak overall and after the tug-of-war that closed the Monday Night Raw ‘Go Home’ episode, we can agree that it has turned out to be anti-climatic too. The ‘Go Home’ episode of Raw is ideally a culmination of all the feuds and is meant to amp up audience interest levels leading up to Wrestlemania. The segment that closed Monday Night Raw, we can all agree, hardly made the cut. However, recent developments outside of the ring have supplanted the in-ring disappointment, to leave the balance of the match finely poised heading into Wrestlemania 31. Brock Lesnar has signed a ‘multi-year’ bumper deal with the WWE, and this has thrown a spanner in the works, as far as pushing Roman Reigns is concerned. The WWE had previously gone out of their way to plug and hype up Roman Reigns, so concerned were they that the audience were not entirely sold on the idea of Roman Reigns becoming the poster-boy of the WWE just yet. However, Brock Lesnar staying on with the WWE has given them a lifeline – both in terms of interest that the main event at Wrestlemania 31 will generate, as well as potential feuds and creative avenues that having Lesnar in their roster enables the WWE to exercise. Here then, is a look at 3 possible finishes for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match, this upcoming Wrestlemania.
#1 He can, and he will!
The first scenario to discuss is obviously WWE’s plan A – to have Roman Reigns pick up the clean win over Brock Lesnar. This is still a distinct possibility come Sunday, as it adheres to all the build that Roman Reigns has been receiving. Though Brock Lesnar has signed a new contract and there is no more necessity to have him drop the title, it would still be a more prudent course of action to have Reigns pick up the clean win, just so that the WWE looks like they are following through.
Also, with both John Cena and Brock Lesnar being the wrong side of 30, it may still be the right decision to let Reigns pick up the clean victory, with a view toward the future in mind. Both Cena and Lesnar have headlined their respective eras, and the Reality era needs a new top babyface. While Reigns may not quite be ready for the responsibility, he undoubtedly has the potential to be a top babyface, and following through with their initial plan of letting him beat Lesnar for the title is still a very viable option for the WWE.
Roman Reigns can come out of this match looking very strong if the match is booked appropriately. Since the idea of him getting the ‘push’ has not entirely caught on, the WWE might avail the opportunity that Wrestlemania 31 presents, to rectify the situation once and for all.
However, if the WWE feel it would be easier to get the audience to react negatively to Reigns than positively, they could have Heyman turn against Brock Lesnar and ally with Reigns, thus making Roman Reigns a heel. Paul Heyman’s on and off-screen tutelage might be precisely what Roman Reigns’ floundering mic skills need. Turning Reigns into a heel might be the price that the WWE needs to pay in order to ensure that a Roman Reigns victory is more easily digested by the audience.
