5 best Indian Test victories in Australia
Down Under has always been one of the toughest places to play cricket for visiting teams. In India's case, it has been a mixed bag. Some Indian teams distinguished themselves in the arena, while some had nightmarish tours. Overall, India have managed to win 5 Tests in Australia, including a win by an innings. The team in late 70s was particularly impressive. This might be a good time to revisit India's wins on Australian turf, as they are on the brink of a challenging tour.
#5 Melbourne (1981)
India had fond memories of Melbourne from their previous tour. In the third match of the 1980-81 tour, the visitors were down 0-1 and had the series to save. Their previous tour gave them plenty of confidence with a 2-3 scoreline, and a drawn series now would be a great incentive. Conceding a massive 180-run lead to Australia in the first innings, India fought back with a 300+ score in their second innings, thanks to a fighting knock from Chetan Chauhan. Kapil Dev’s 5-for ensured India eventually won the Test by 59 runs and cement the team’s stature as one of the best touring teams at that point of time.
