The qualifying stage of 2014 Champions League T20 kicks off on September 13 and will last till September 16, after which the tournament proper gets underway. The qualifiers feature 4 teams: Mumbai Indians (India), Lahore Lions (Pakistan), Northern Knights (New Zealand) and Southern Express (Sri Lanka). These four teams will play each other once and, at the end of it, the top two teams of the qualifiers will progress to the next stage of the competition. The qualifying round should provide us some enthralling cricket as all the four teams boast of some of the most exciting T20 cricketers in the world. Here are six players to watch out for in the qualifiers:
#6 Kusal Perera - Southern Express
The 24-year-old Kusal Perera has already earned numerous comparisons to his compatriot and fellow left-hander, Sanath Jayasuriya. While such comparisons are premature and only unhelpful to Perera in the long run, you cannot deny the fact that he has an X-factor about him which tells you that he will go on to have a long and distinguished career for Sri Lanka.
He is diminutive in stature, but that does not prevent him from dispatching anything that is short both on the off and leg side and is extremely difficult to contain once he gets going.
Twenty20 career:
