#1 Marvan Atapattu
The batting coach of Zimbabwe Marvan Atapattu, was one of the best openers during the 1990's. His career lasted for 17 long years. During his career, Marvan played 90 tests scoring 5,502 runs at 39.09 with 16 centuries. He is the 4th player to score 6 double hundreds in test history. Marvan also has the distinction of scoring hundreds against all test playing nations. And not to forget, he was also a successful ODI player scoring 8,529 runs in 268 matches.
Under his captaincy, Sri Lanka had nurtured some of the youngsters like, Sangakkara, Malinga, Dilshan; who later ruled the Sri Lankan cricket. In an ODI against Australia, when Andrew Symonds was judged LBW by the umpire; all of a sudden, captain Marvan went to the umpire and told that there was a huge inside edge and requested to let Andrew continue batting.This incident shows the character of Marvan Samson Atapattu.
