Top moments from Day 1 of the 2nd Test between India and South Africa
It was a highly satisfying day at the Chinnaswamy Stadium for Indian cricket fans as India yet again polished off South Africa for just 214 before their openers added 80 runs in an unbeaten partnership until close of play. The double delight, however, was AB de Villiers’ fighting 85-run knock in his 100th Test match at his home away from home, Bengaluru. There were several outstanding moments on an eventful Day 1 of the 2nd Test in the Gandhi-Mandela series. Here we have picked out 4 of the best among them:
#1 Pujara\'s great reflex catch to dismiss Du Plessis
It was a piece of sheer magic at short leg from Cheteshwar Pujara which ensured another failure for South Africa’s Faf Du Plessis and another wicket for an Indian spinner in the series.
Ashwin was fired up after having picked up the wicket of van Zyl off the second ball of his first over and was looking for another one. Du Plessis stepped down the track but misjudged the flight completely and the ball took the inside edge of his bat and headed low towards Pujara at short leg. He was lightning quick in his response and took the catch just inches off the ground.
The on-field umpires were not sure whether the catch was taken cleanly and so they referred the decision to the third umpire who ruled in favour of Pujara after viewing the catch a number of times.
