5 amusing things that happened on the deadline day
With the teams always frantically trying to sign their targets and players pushing for moves to some other clubs from their own, chaos ensues leading to some surprising but amusing events taking place on the deadline day and this transfer window was no different as some of biggest clubs in Europe got messy much to the amusement of the neutrals. The final day of the transfer window always brings with it tales that epitomise not just the silliness of the hour but often summarising the dodginess of the entire two month period. Having witnessed things in the past ranging from helicopters ferrying players from one place to another or a player going missing to force a transfer, some individiuals seem to lose their senses on the day. This end to a long window brought with it some of its own stories, while some were genuinely puzzling and probably distressed the clubs, players and fans involved, it made for some amusing stories to be re-told on another day. Here is a compilation of 5 stories from the 2015 summer transfer window deadline day:
#5 Chelsea signing Papy Djilobodji and Reading defender Micchael Hector after failed pursuit of Stones and Marquinhos.
It was perhaps a surprise deadline day for Chelsea - but not in the Paul Pogba shaped way Blues fans had hoped for. First up, Victor Moses swapped West for East London and joined West Ham for the season, before Papy Djilobodji signed. And then in an extremely left-field move Reading’s Michael Hector joins on a four-year deal worth 4 million pounds before being loaned back to the Royals for the year.
While not amusing on it’s own, it is a far cry from the usual panic buying huge clubs tend to do on deadline day. Manchester united’s £36-million move for Anthony Martial was more in that league. The Blues were linked with John Stones and Ezequiel Garay to shore up their defence and going from there to an unknown quantity was pretty amusing for not only fans of other clubs but their own followers as well.
