5 players who have disappointed in ISL season 2

The second season of the Indian Super League has seen many new big names joining the franchises, while some of the players who performed brilliantly last season were retained by their clubs. What makes players great is their ability to be consistent and show that their performances were not a fluke. There are a few players who came into the season with a lot of expectations but have disappointed us. We take a look at the Top 5 players whose performances haven’t been up to the mark this season:

#1 Bernard Mendy

Bernard Mendy needs to elevate his game to help Chennaiyin FC win

The former French international was signed by Chennaiyin FC last season, and was one of their best performers as they finished top of the table during the group stages last season, but he has been a liabilty this season. Chennaiyin have conceded 15 goals this season, and a few of them have gone in due to individual errors by Mendy. He was expected to be the mainstay of the team this season, but his performances have been disappointing.

The 34-year-old has played in central defence for them this season and has failed to get a very good understanding going with his defensive partners. He has also looked a little laboured and needs to pick up his performances.

A youth product of Caen, he started his senior career also at Caen before moving to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain. He made over 200 appearances for them, and even claimed in a recent interview he was the best right back in the world in 2004. He has also played for Premier League clubs Bolton Wanderers and Hull City.

Mendy was a very influential member of the Chennai outfit last season, but he has failed to replicate the same level of performances this season.
