7 in-form strikers who could move to bigger clubs next season

Vincent Aboubakar from Lorient to Porto. Ciro Immobile from Torino to Borussia Dortmund. Antoine Griezmann from Real Sociedad to Atletico Madrid. Josip Drmic from FC Nurnberg to Bayer Leverkusen. And, Wilfired Bony from Swansea to Manchester City. These were five strikers who were ‘Numero Uno’ at their old clubs. Clubs where they shone so brightly, that they symbolised a whole team, and brought joy to their loyal fans. But, therein ended the romance. Come the last two transfer windows, all these men were picked up by bigger and better clubs, with the players knowing that their time had come. And the jury is still out on all of their departures, except for that of Griezmann who has lit up the Calderon on fire. Needless to say, with the 2014/15 season drawing to a close, the next batch of strikers will move on, beyond the grasp of clubs which saw them as heroes. While there’s no predicting if and where they’d move, a look at each of Europe’s top 5 leagues reveals the names most likely to move on. And, here they are.Note: Stats taken from all competitions and updated until 4 April 2015

#7 Charlie Austin - QPR

Goals: 17; Assists: 4

The lone ranger at Loftus Road, Charlie Austin is scoring goals for fun across the Old Blighty – in vain. For, in spite of all his exploits, his club is still teetering in the relegation mire. However, irrespective of their Premier League status come the end of the season, the Londoners will almost surely lose their star man.

Even if there’s only a year left on his contract, a princely sum can be expected for him. What with the English media’s obsession with him and the general tendency of English clubs to overpay for homegrown talent. In Austin though, they are guaranteed to get a striker of the highest pedigree with all the requisite abilities.

The big boys of England are all on red alert, with Liverpool leading the way to sign him.
