Ranking ISL teams based on their away record

The group stage of the second season of the Indian Super League is over, and Atletico de Kolkata, FC Goa, Delhi Dynamos, and Chennaiyin FC will now be fighting for the ultimate prize. The success of any team depends on how they perform at their home ground in front of their own fans, but it’s equally important to get results away from home. Strength of character and resilience is needed to win away from home as teams go up against not just their opponents, but their strong support too.We rank the Indian Super League teams based on their away record:

#8 FC Pune City (P7 W0 D2 L5 Pts: 2, GD -9)

Pune really were poor away from home, registering only two draws

Definitely the worst side away from home, David Platt’s FC Pune City managed just two points away from home. They looked tactically very poor and lacked the inspiration to perform well away from home.

Their poor away form started against Chennaiyin FC in a game that they lost 2-1.  They then managed a point against FC Goa, before losing 2-0 to the Kerala Blasters.

As much as they were good at home, they kept coming up with awful performances away from home. Against Mumbai City FC they managed a goalless draw before losing three consecutive away games to Delhi Dynamos, Atletico de Kolkata and NorthEast United.

A lot of blame will go towards David Platt, who was at times guilty of rotating his players a little too much and not very wisely at that. Eventually, his team failed to qualify for the playoffs primarily due to their poor away form.
