Home stadiums of the eight franchisees in the Indian Super League

The Indian Super League is around the corner and their PR and marketing team have managed to create a great buzz in the weeks leading up to the star-studded event. The likes of Zico, Pires, Anelka, Del Piero et al have only added to the appeal of the tournament.But as always with the case of Indian football, the infrastructure is lacking and not upto international standards. All eight franchisees have decided upon their home stadiums, which are undergoing extensive last-minute repairs and refurbishment to get ready for this football extravangaza. We look at all eight venues for the inaugural season of the Indian Super League.Note: The venues for the semi-finals and final of the Indian Super League are yet to be decided since they’ll be neutral venues and would depend upon which teams enter the semi-finals at the end of the league stage.

#1 Salt Lake Stadium (Kolkata) Atletico de Kolkata

India’s largest sports stadium is set to host Sourav Ganguly’s Atletico de Kolkata team. The stadium, for long known as the home of Indian football, will also host the opening match of the tournament between Kolkata and Mumbai City FC. As per various news sources, the Salt Lake Stadium underwent major renovation, mainly in the corporate box and dressing rooms, after it was confirmed as the home of the Kolkata franchise earlier this year.

The stadium has an official seating capacity of 120,000, making it one of the biggest football venues in the world and Ganguly and his team will be hoping for the football-frenzied Kolkata populace to come out in big numbers to support their local team.
