Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Daredevils by one run in their first match of the eighth season of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday. This was not the first occasion, however, when a team in the IPL has prevailed by a margin of just one run. The first occasion of a match being decided by a margin of 1 run was between Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 21 May, 2008.
Kings XI Punjab had put up a score of 189/4 in the 20 overs batting first with help of Shaun Marsh’s 81 off 56 and Luke Pomersbach’s 79* off 50. Mumbai Indians had a decent start as all their top four batsmen scored 20+, which included Sachin Tendulkar’s 65 off 46.
