The records the Golden State Warriors have broken so far in the 2015-16 NBA season
The reigning champsIf someone told you, maybe, five years ago, that the Golden State Warriors would beat a team led by LeBron James for the NBA Championship soon, you wouldn’t have remiss for bursting into hysterical laughter. But that’s exactly why the NBA is one of the most popular sporting leagues in the world, vacillating from dog days to heyday. Teams recruit high-level athletes to form what they think will be the best possible line-ups and then sculpt them into world beaters. But what looks good on paper isn’t necessarily what’ll get results on the hardwood. The current Golden State Warriors unit is a contradiction of that statement. A 6’8” power forward? A 6’6” small forward? Laughable, until you see their utter dominance from October 28th, 2014 to the present. It has been a long road to the gold, but one that is all the more satisfying because of its arduousness. After seasons with paltry win records, enter Steve “Frankenstein” Kerr, who successfully created a monster, one that might even shatter the immortal Michael Jordan-led Chicago Bulls’ record of 72-10.With that number most certainly in their sights, let us take a look at the other records that the reigning champs have surpassed so far in the season
#1 Most successful start to an NBA season at 16-0
When (Warriors) fans found out that they would play their 16th game of the season against the ailing Lakers, everyone around them became psychics for an instant. Their thoughts were transparent: “The record is ours!”.
Most fans would have had their hearts in the mouths when the incumbents faced off against sworn enemies the LA Clippers for the second time and were down 18 points in the 2nd quarter. But they showed true championship spirit as they rallied and scored clutch plays to wrested the game away as the Clippers watched hopelessly.
If they continue their roaring form, they are in good stead to set a season-start record that will endure for generations to come, unless they break it in a subsequent season.
