5 reasons why Brock Lesnar deserved to break The Undertaker's WrestleMania streak
After two decades, the greatest streak in sports entertainment history finally succumbed at its final hurdle. One of the greatest feats in professional wrestling history ended this past Sunday night, when The Undertaker lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania his first loss at the grandest stage, to bring the curtains down on perhaps the greatest accomplishment by a sports entertainer, past or present. The wrestling world has been left shell shocked, like the eerie silence you experience before a storm. Since the event, many fans and former professional wrestlers have expressed their disgust and disappointment in the streak being ended, and then there have been others who feel Brock Lesnar didnt deserve to be The one ending the streak.Im one of the biggest Undertaker fans in the world. When I was 5 years old, I heard about this zombie esque creature; some said he had ten lives while the others called him the devil himself. I was so fascinated that I started watching professional wrestling just to watch The Undertaker perform. I know there are millions just like me, who got into professional wrestling because of The Phenom. While I too was upset about the streak ending, unlike the rest, I dont think Brock Lesnar was a bad choice. As a matter of fact, other than the previous WrestleMania where Punk faced The Undertaker, I believe Lesnar was the only other option to end the streak. In this article, I provide you with five reasons why Brock Lesnar deserved to The one ending the streak.
#5 Lack of other options
While I agree that the streak should have been preserved, I also believe that if it is the right thing to do, then the streak should be ended by someone who will do justice to it. Last year was the very first time I thought I wouldnt mind the streak ending, when CM Punk faced The Undertaker. It wouldve been the passing of the torch, from an old warrior to the new one. Other than Punk, Lesnar is the only viable option WWE had. The WWE fans wouldnt have minded if the streak had come to an end at the hands of Shawn Michaels or Triple H, but why is that? What significance would such an honor have to these two who were done with their careers? Lesnars victory has made him a bonafide legend, something that will be talked about twenty years from now. Lesnars stake has sky rocketed in the professional wrestling industry, and just like Taker did ten years ago, he put Lesnar over big time, and there will never be any other accomplishment in the WWE that will come close to Lesnars victory over Taker at WrestleMania.
While there are some people who think superstars such as Wyatt or Reigns should have ended the streak, let us not forget Itll take at least a year or two for them to reach that level, and Undertaker might not be around for that long as a performer. You need to achieve a certain level of success to carry the burden of beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania, and none of the youngsters would be ready by next year or the year after that.
