The thing about Hall of Fame ceremonies is that they only accentuate the positives of one’s career. #10 The Stan Hansen Hoax of Promoters
Hansen was a superstar known for his stiff working. The reputation kickstarted during the initial part of his wrestling career and it was actually a hoax that helped him cement such a reputation.
In 1976, Hansen started working for World Wide Wrestling Federation and was put into a feud with the World Champion Bruno Sammartino.
During the match, Hansen broke Sammartino’s neck after a botched power bomb. The promoters claimed that Sammartino’s neck was broken by the power of Stansen’s lariat. This boosted Hansen’s reputation and he was built up as a fearful wrestler in the territories.
