What is next for Alberto Del Rio after Hell in a Cell?
Back with a bangAlberto Del Rio has about eight weeks to savor the fact he all but kicked John Cena’s a** at Hell in a Cell. The fact Del Rio and Cena opened the pay-per-view was one thing – a huge get for WWE and an even bigger statement that it was done in such a way that the Mexican Aristocrat dominated the United States Champion, taking his title and sending him packing until the end of December. Now, we know the master plan, now we know who the next man up is. And what better way to sell a Del Rio return than to have him flanked by none other than Zeb Colter. Another great move on the part of the creative team. It’s hard to give the writers kudos when they have missed on so many opportunities of late, but this was a stroke of genius. So, who becomes the next opponent? Is Del Rio the transitional champion? Does WWE have plans that lead to a potential World Title program and how does Colter fit into all of this with his “everyone is invited” type of stance?I like it, I like it, I like it.There are only two pay-per-view events left on the calendar, so hopefully the company chooses opponents wisely. Here are a few potential opponents for Del Rio in the coming months.
#1 Dean Ambrose
It would be a solid program, but I am not sure the fans would buy into it. Matches and feuds need to tell a story.
Ambrose is being groomed as one of the company’s top faces right now and his star is bright. Putting gold around his waist makes sense, but it also makes sense for him to chase gold and come up short as well.
No, this is not a Roman Reigns-type situation. Ambrose is everything Del Rio isn’t. The character styles and conflict would go over well and there would be chemistry in the ring – but the story may not get over with the fans.
This is also a case where Ambrose has no angle right now and is in need of a challenger. Grooming him to be a solid face in WWE is one thing. Keeping him from a potentially solid program is another.
