Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans Key Stats
Titans QB Ryan Tannehill is listed as doubtful for Sunday's contest as he's dealing with an ankle injury and an illness. In his absence, rookie Malik Willis will likely get the start. Willis was taken in the third round of this year's draft out of Liberty University, but he has just four NFL passing attempts to his credit. Tennessee already leans heavily on running back Derrick Henry, who leads the NFL in carries per game. Henry rushed 30 times last week against the Colts, and on Sunday, he may surpass this total. After a slow start, the Alabama product has picked up his production, now tallying 100 or more yards in each of the previous three games. The Titans' receivers are decent, but none of them have eye-opening stats. The Texans' defense has been really poor at stopping the run, and last week Las Vegas torched them for 38 points and 400 total yards. Expect the visitors to run the ball a ton on Sunday afternoon in Houston.
Houston's offense has been very inconsistent, but running back Dameon Pierce has had a great rookie year. Last week he tallied 92 yards on the ground, and he's up to 504 total rushing yards on an average of 4.8 yards per carry. QB Davis Mills has some pretty pedestrian numbers, but with top receivers, Nico Collins and Brandin Cooks questionable, this could potentially make it a lot harder for Houston to throw the ball. Tennessee's defense has been pretty solid, especially with turnovers. Over their past three games, they've forced seven, so Houston will have to be very careful with the ball on Sunday.
Tennessee Titans vs. Houston Texans Betting Prediction
Even though the Texans have won just one of six this year, they're favored against a team with four straight wins. Losing Tannehill is a big blow for the Titans, but Derrick Henry has proven that he can carry an offense by himself. Both teams have had decent success against the spread this year, but the Titans have covered each of their last four games. Back the visitors to win their fifth straight as they've seemed to shake off their slow start, and they're firing on all cylinders now.
