BREAKING NEWS: Sushil Kumar progresses at London 2012

19th Commonwealth Games - Day 7: Wrestling

DELHI, INDIA – OCTOBER 10: Sushil Kumar of India

India’s Sushil Kumar made it through to the quarter finals of the Men’s 66 Kg Freestyle Wrestling event at the 2012 London Olympics, beating Turkey’s Ramazan Sahin 3-1.

Sahin, who was gold medallist in the same event at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, won the first round when he pinned Kumar just after a minute in the first half.

But Kumar – who took Bronze in China four years ag0, pulled level, though, when he was awarded a clinch towards the end of the second round, and took full advantage of it as he converted it to earn India victory in the second round.

In a situation similar to Geeta Phogat in the Women’s wrestling event, it was winner take all as the third and final round began.

Ramazan Sahin, who despite starting very strongly, was pinned by Kumar in the third round to seal progress to the quarter finals of the event with a final score of 2-1, triumphing over the Turk who looked visibly disappointed.
