We are halfway through the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and so far this edition has been a good one for India. Before the start of Day 6, India has claimed 19 medals- 10 Gold, 4 Silver, and 5 Bronze. Weightlifting and Shooting have been the two most favorable events for India with Weightlifting bringing 5 Gold medals and Shooting bringing 2.
Table Tennis has been another good event for India halfway through the competition. In the team events, India claimed Gold in both Women's and Men's Team beating Singapore and Nigeria respectively. Badminton brought another Gold for India on Day 5, with the mixed team winning the event, defeating Malaysia in the finals by 3 matches to 1.
As Weightlifting runs it's course, another couple of events which have proved to be India's strongest in recent years begin. In boxing, many of the Indian athletes have faced their early rounds opponents and progressed. As a result, five Indian boxers find themselves in the quarterfinals of their respective weight categories on Day 6.
Naman Tanwar, Amit, Hussain Muhammed, Manoj Kumar, and Satish Kumar will face their respective opponents in the quarterfinals being held on Day 6. A win in the quarters would guarantee a medal for the boxer.
Olympic medalist Gagan Narang and Chain Singh will be participating in Men's 50m Rifle Prone qualification tomorrow morning. If they manage to progress, they will find themselves in the finals of the even on the same day. Heena Sidhu also returns to action in tomorrow's 25m Pistol event for Women. She will be joined by fellow compatriot Annu Singh in the shooting range.
Hockey returns tomorrow for Indian Men's and Women's team as they face Malaysia and South Africa in their respective Pool matches. The Women's team will be looking to build on their superb win against England while the Men will be looking to bounce back from yet another disappointing draw against Wales.
Note: The events of the day can be followed on Sony Six, Ten 2 and Ten 3 (Hindi commentary). Sony Liv will be streaming the events live. You can also follow live commentary on Sportskeeda.com.
