Jwala-Diju lose their final match; India out of mixed doubles contention

India’s Jwala Gutta and V Diju lost to Korea’s pairing of Lee/Ha. The pair were already virtually out of contention for the next round, and that may have played a part in the unenthusiastic performance that was put on.

The Koreans were always in command and Jwala, Diju never managed to raise their game to trouble their opponents. The scoreline read 21-15, 21-15. With this, India’s contention in the Mixed Doubles Badminton event at the Olympics has come to an end.

Jwala might just have been conserving herself for tonight’s Women’s Doubles match where she and partner, Ashwini Ponnappa, need a win to have a realistic chance of making it to the next round.
