List of professional sports leagues in India
The Indian Premier League, which in itself was based on the model of European football leagues, has led to the rise of numerous similar league competitions across many sports. These leagues have brought in new investors, more spectators and higher revenues, reason enough for more sports to follow in suit. Here is a list of the numerous professional leagues taking place in India, along with other events in the country that fill up the Indian sports calendar:
Cricket | Indian Premier League |
Football | I-League |
Hockey | Hockey India League |
Badminton | Indian Badminton League |
Golf | Golf Premier League |

In addition to these leagues, IMG-Reliance, the company which owns all commercial rights for tournaments organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), is planning to kickstart a new football league in the country in the style of the IPL, while the I-League in itself is planning to expand, and could see new teams added in the coming years.
A basketball league of a similar sort could also be in the works, which would showcase a mixture of Indian and international players and would be the country’s first professional basketball league.
American football has made its entry to India as well, with teams from India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka participating in the Elite Football League of India.
Along with these league-based tournaments, some of the world’s most prestigious motorsports competitions have an involvement from India:

- The Buddh International Circuit is set to hold a World Superbike Championship race as well, in November this year.
- The FIM MotoGP World Motorcycle Racing Championship has an Indian team in Mahindra Racing, with the possibility of a race in India in the near future.
