Men's 55kg wrestling - Amit Kumar loses in Quarter-Final

India’s Amit Kumar (R) wrestles Georgia’s Vladimer Khinchegashvili during their Men’s 55kg Freestyle quarterfinal match

Amit Kumar lost his Quarter-Final match 1-3 against Georgia’s Vladimer Khinchegashvili and will pin his hopes on the Repechage System to earn a Bronze medal for India.

The first round ended at 0-0 and the toss for clinch came out in favor of the Indian. But sadly, Amit Kumar gave away an advantageous position, much like Geeta Phogat yesterday, to concede 4 technical points and first round to the Georgian after a video review.

Khinchegashvili was at his attacking best in the 2nd round and Kumar did well to show some defensive moves but eventually lost the round 1-3 to the Georgian. After the end of 2nd round, the scores stood at 7-1 (Technical Points) and 3-1 (Classification Points) in favor of Vladimer Khinchegashvili. Amit Kumar will have a chance to win the Bronze medal through Repechage System if the Georgian wrestler reaches the final.
