BRICS Sports Games 2024: Indian results on June 21

The Indian contingent bagged two bronze medals on Friday, June 21, in the ongoing BRICS Sports Games 2024. Team India is currently ranked at the ninth position in the medal tally with one gold, three silver, and 14 bronze medals.

Indian fencers had an excellent day on Friday after clinching wins in their respective third-place playoff encounters, settling for two bronze medals. The Russian Federation with 212 gold, 123 silver and 83 bronze is holding the pole position in the medal tally.

It’s important to note that the BRICS Sports Games 2024 is a multisport tournament hosted annually by the bloc country members. Currently, Russia has the right to host the Games.

In the third-place playoff in Fencing team foil, the Indian women’s team stunned Bahrain to grab the bronze medal. Additionally, the Indian Epee men's team bagged a win over the United Arab Emirates in the third-place playoff encounter to grab the bronze medal.

Earlier in the day, the Indian men's Epee team secured a win over Iraq. The Russian Federation grabbed the gold medal, stunning Belarus in this particular event.

On Friday, India had a tough outing in Canoe Sprint events as they couldn’t get a single medal despite making it to the final in four different events. Furthermore, in Chess, India (30.5) settled for the fourth rank, missing the medal by only two points.

With three more days left in the BRICS Sports Games 2024, Indian athletes would be aiming to add more medals to propel the team to a better position in the medal tally.
