BRICS Sports Games 2024: Indian results on June 22

Indian athletes had an impressive outing in the BRICS Sports Games 2024 on Saturday, June 22, bagging nine medals, including two gold, three silver, and three bronze medals. Out of nine, eight medals came from boxing and the other from fencing.

India ascended one spot from the ninth to the eighth rank in the medal tally. Overall, India's medal tally increased to 29, including three gold, six silver, and 20 bronze medals. Russian Federation with 262 gold, 141 silver, and 99 bronze medals continues to stay on top of the tally.

Shifting our focus to the details of the day, Indian boxer Minakshi bagged the gold medal after stunning UAE's Jawaher Abdulla in the 48 kg category final. Anamika also secured the gold medal after bagging a win over South Africa's Mathiba in the 50 kg category final.

Later in the 52 kg final, Jyothi lost to Russia's Anna Aedma to grab the silver medal. Sakshi (57 kg category) and Manisha (60 kg category) secured silver medals after suffering losses to Russia's Lyudmila Voronotsova and Nadezhda Golubeva.

Other Indian boxers Prachi, Manju Bamboriya, and Lalita could grab only bronze medals in boxing. Moving to Fencing Team Foil, in the third-place playoff encounter, the India men’s team bagged a win over Uzbekistan to grab the bronze medal. Meanwhile, the Indian Epee women's team lost the bronze medal game after losing to Azerbaijan in the BRICS Sports Games 2024.

With two more days to go in the BRICS Sports Games 2024, Indian players would hope to add more medals to their tally.
