India bags 20 medals at Asian Para Canoeing Sprint Championships 2024

Indian para-canoeists have dominated the Asian Para Canoeing Sprint Championships held in Tokyo, Japan. They have secured a total of 20 medals, including nine gold, seven silver, and four bronze medals to top the tally.

Japan with eight medals (one gold, four silver, and three bronze), and Thailand with two medals (one gold and a bronze) clinched the second and third positions in the medals table, respectively.

Moving to the details of India’s dominance, In the Men’s Kayak MKL1 event, Yas Kumar secured the gold medal with a timing of 59.147 seconds while Surender Kumar grabbed the bronze medal with 1:27.541 seconds. Japan's Yuta Takagi bagged the silver with 1:03.690 seconds.

In the men’s Kayak, MKL2 event, Sanjeev Kotiya, and Rajveer Singh bagged gold and bronze medals with 50.182 seconds and 56.589 seconds, respectively. Japan's Hiromi Tatsumi grabbed the silver medal with 50.49 seconds.

In the Men’s Kayak MKL3 event, India grabbed two medals by Manish Kaurav (46.522 seconds) and Rajesh Pawar (48.547 seconds) with silver and bronze medals. Korea's Yong Beom secured the gold medal with 44.745 seconds.

In the Men’s Va’a MVL1 200m event, India secured two medals - a gold by Surender Kumar (1:14.044 seconds) while Yash Kumar bagged the silver medal with 1:26.206 seconds. Japan's Tetsuya Sekine racked the bronze medal with 2:04.119 seconds.

In the Men’s Va’a MVL2 200m event, India managed to win only one medal - a silver by Gajendra Singh, who clocked 1:01.495 seconds while Thailand's Santi Wantawee secured the gold medal with Japan's Kato Takanori securing the bronze with 1:06.719 seconds.

Jaideep clocked 55.9 seconds to win the gold medal in the men’s Va’a MVL3 final. Japan's Imai Kochi (56.895 seconds), and Tatsumi Hiromi (1:00.097 seconds) secured the silver and bronze medals in this particular category.


A look at the women para-canoeists performance in Asian Para Canoeing Sprint Championships

In the Women’s Kayak 200m WKL1 event, Pooja Ojha and Sonaliben Ratilal registered the top two spots to rack up a gold and a silver medal respectively, clocking 1:26.565 seconds and 2:45.928 seconds.

In the WKL2 200m event, India secured gold and silver medals with Prachi Yadav (59.33 seconds) and Rajni Jha (1:15.112 seconds).

In the Women’s Kayak WKL3 event, India's Shabana (1:06.478 seconds) and Sangeeta Rajput (1:07.865 seconds) secured the bronze and silver medals. Meanwhile, Japan's Yoshimi Kaji clinched the gold medal with 57.857 seconds.

In the three Women’s Va’a events combined, Indian para-canoeists managed to clinch four medals, including three gold and one silver.
